How Do I Manage Elbow Pain?

The elbow is a complex joint made up of an intricate structure comprised of cartilage, bone, fluids and ligaments that keep the joint functional and mobile. Yet when a tendon or muscle is injured then the elbow becomes inflamed.

There are many things that can injure an elbow, causing pain and discomfort. Tendinitis is the most common type of elbow pain. Tendinitis is an inflammation or injury to the tendons that are connected to the muscle and bone. Most cases of tendinitis is a result of some type of sports injury, usually from playing golf or tennis as both sports are rely on the elbow to a great extent.

For the most part, elbow pain isn’t very serious – yet due to the frequency and use of the elbow even the smallest injury can eventually become burdensome and, sometimes, worse.

When you move your hands forward, or stretch them upwards or backwards the muscles along the forearm stretch, which causes the tendons to stretch against the bone. The connective tissue of the tendon is then in turn used – or overused – and thus the over-extension of the writs or forearm can cause tendonitis and tearing along the connective tissue of the tendon and bone, which can result in severe, chronic pain.
