Fibromyalgia Drugs Helps Chronic Knee Pain

Researchers at the Rush Medical Center in Chicago have developed a new strategy in combating post-operative chronic knee pain.

The drug Lyrica was given to individuals immediately after surgery for two weeks. Those patients had a pronounced reduction in pain six months later. This is especially important for knee surgery recovery patients who usually experience acute knee pain for months after their surgery.

The drug, Lyrica, is predominantly used to help patients who suffer from fibroyalgia, partial seizures, diabetic neuropathy pain and generalized anxiety disorder.

Headaches Linked to Weather, Survey Claims

The National Headache Foundation conducted survey in which many headache sufferers claim that the intense pain is brought on by changes in the weather.

As many as 51-percent also claimed that loud music triggered similar headaches, and 38-percent cited computer use as a trigger. This survey was conducted with a test group of more than 1,000 headache sufferers who claim that such pain is generated whenever there are barometric changes in the weather, particularly during heavy weather.

While the respondents believe that their headaches are created by inclement weather, there is no clinical evidence to support the theory.
